National Runaway Prevention Month

November 3rd, 2009

November is National Runaway Prevention Month. Within the next few weeks, we’ll highlight some of our experiences as liners on the National Runaway Switchboard hotline (without going into too much detail so as to protect our callers’ privacy) and some suggestions as to what to do if you or someone you know is thinking of running away from home or has run away from home.

Millions of teens yearly in the US alone are either run away from home or become homeless. Of these teens, a good proportion leave home because of negative circumstances in their school and home lives (eg conflicts with parents/guardians). When a teen runs away from home or is kicked out of their home, it is usually because of several conditions that could have been made better or could have been prevented from happening.
