Groundhog Yay?

February 2nd, 2010

Today is Groundhog Day. I know everyone knows what that means. It’s the day where we celebrate a groundhog coming out of the ground! I know I might sound sarcastic but I never was a really woohoo kind of person about Groundhog Day. Pretty much the U.S. and Canada wake up on the 33rd day of the year (aka February 2nd) and wait for an animal. They wait for whoever knows how long for a groundhog to show up. According to folklore, if a groundhog emerges from its burrow and fails to see its shadow, it will leave its burrow. That signifies that winter will end soon. If the groundhog sees its shadow the groundhog will supposedly go back into its burrow and winter will continue for six more weeks. Some people may believe that a groundhog can tell us that winter will end or not and that is fine. I don’t really care because it still stays cold!
