How Can We Help Homeless Youth?

February 8th, 2010

The recent Switched-On magazine has to do with youth homelessness in the winter. The poll that goes with the magazine issue is “What should be done to help homeless youth in the winter?” The possible choices you can pick from are the following: allow youth into adult shelters if the youth ones are full, setup clothing drives for youth shelters, create warming centers just for youth, or allow youth to stay for longer than a few days at a time. I think these are all good choices but hard to just pick one. Right now about 50% of voters choose that they would rather have youth allowed into adult shelters if the youth shelters are filled up. I do think it is a good idea that teens should be allowed to stay in adult shelters. The bad thing is that would make less room for adults who need shelter. That is why I think there should be one huge place in each city. It will allow for hundreds of adults and then there would be a separate room for just youth. It would cost money but I think that would be awesome for many people who are homeless.
