New website for runaway and homeless youth

Monday, July 11th, 2011

The National Runaway Switchboard (NRS) does everything it can to help youth in crisis figure out solutions for their problems. That’s why, a couple weeks ago, NRS unveiled its new website. It might seem like redesigning a website is a little superficial for a crisis hotline. But actually, the new site makes it easier and faster for visitors to find help, whether it’s through the phone services, live chat services, or information that NRS provides. Plus, most people using google don’t bother to skim results after the first page. If NRS doesn’t show up near the top when people search “runaway,” a ton of people might miss out on the best resource out there for them. Now, though, NRS is up there with the top results, though we still have to compete with Kanye West’s videos.

Get Help on Live Chat

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

The goal of the National Runaway Switchboard is to help in keeping youth safe by them find food, shelter, or transportation. Sometimes, though, people are blocked from contacting us because of various obstacles. Maybe someone can’t talk on the phone because they’re at a library, or they can’t risk having their parents hear them calling, or they aren’t ready to speak directly to another person about what’s going on. That’s why the National Runaway Switchboard’s new live chat service is important. The service allows people looking for help to chat in real time with trained chat operators. NRS can still help find food and shelter for whoever needs it, but the live chat offers a new way of getting this help. The chat service, like our phone service, is 100% anonymous and confidential, and just as easy to access. If you go to NRS’ website, www.1800RUNAWAY.org, you can find the link in the upper right hand corner. Help is just a few clicks away.

Have You Ever?

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Have you ever wanted to just run away and never come back?? Have you ever felt like no one was there to listen when you needed them the most?? Have you ever felt like you was invisible and no one can see you?? Have you ever cried all night?? Have you ever put on a fake smile so you won’t be asked, “What’s wrong??” Have you ever dreamed a horrible dream and woke up and realized it was never a dream?? Have you ever felt like there was no finish line to get to finish all the problems you were going through?? Have you ever wanted to feel loved?? Have you ever felt scared?? Have you ever felt like you just wanted the world to end because it seems like nothing but drama was coming your way?? Has there ever been a time where all you could do was lye in the bed in the dark because that’s where you felt safe?? Have you ever wondered why men always wanted to touch a child in all the wrong places?? Have you ever wondered why your family was never your support in life?? Have you ever wondered why you and your friend couldn’t have a batman and robin friendship?? Have you ever wondered why you never had a hero in your life?? Have you ever felt weak with no hope?? Have you ever wonder why o why can’t you stop thinking about all the things you constantly wonder about and got up and made a change in your life to make you a better person?? Do you know where you can go for help? 1-800-RUNAWAY.

Help When You Need It

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

National Runaway Switchboard is a great place to call in for any problem. Any problem big or small National Runaway Switchboard (NRS) can help. They provide resources if needed and the call is always confidential. I know some people dislike the feeling of calling in because they may get caught. You can be easily heard while talking on the phone or someone may see the number you called. Instead of doing that if you do not like that option NRS just started a live chat service. This way you can use the internet to chat with someone from NRS. A crisis volunteer will be able to chat with you over the internet. If the phone is a bad idea the next best thing is using the chat service that they just started. It is very convenient and is less suspicious if you are worried. After talking to a crisis volunteer it can be easily erased and no one will ever know.
