Sexting is widely known among teenagers these days. It is the act of sending sexually explicit messages or images between cell phones. Sexting replaced phone sex since it is thought of being easier. Many teens do not think anything of it. It may be fun at the time, sharing pictures of yourself to your partner. There are singers who made songs off of this topic which also made this topic a big discussion. Sexting may be fun but it does come with consequences. It is easy for the police to find the pictures or getting into someone else’s possession that you might not like. With that problem sexting can be regretted. With the police involved they could count it as a crime such as child pørn. The offending people would probably end up going to court. If the police don’t find it and others do it also can cause another major issue. It can be spread around risking everything. That is why sexting should not always the best idea when talking to someone you love.

Time Spent Together
Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Last Thursday was Thanksgiving and many families probably spent time together at the dinner table or at a family gathering. Even if you didn’t, one must understand the importance of families and friends spending time together. Studies have shown that most runaways end up on the streets because of familial conflicts and problematic family dynamics. Granted, some of them can’t be avoided just by spending more time together, but perhaps some can as the lack of communication will often lead to conflicts. Even amongst friends, if you fail to talk to them for an extended period of time, it is likely that you cannot have conversations as easily as you did before when you were talking to them every week, or every day. With the current social networks like Facebook and MySpace, it may be easy to ignore people in real life, but remember that face-to-face contact is always better than online interactions, regardless of how many emoticons you use, some emotions just don’t get through as well online. ;D

Holiday Scams
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
Black Friday is coming up soon and many people are probably excited about the deals. However, this is also a time when unethical ‘merchants’ may try to sneak scams in. People, especially kids and teens whose parents don’t buy them everything they want, are likely to fall for those pages that say “free ____ (insert electronic name or product name here)” for filling out some surveys. It’s the holiday season, they may think, oh even with the discounts I can’t afford this but I really want it; so maybe I should give a shot in this, there’s no harm — or so you think. These scams take your information, but people rarely win anything, and even if they are informed that they did, it is often near impossible to claim the prizes. Therefore, the next time you see this kind of page, you should take extra caution not to let your information be taken as they may use it for something that may wreck your credit or cause you to be swamped with spam.

Internet Privacy
Friday, November 19th, 2010
I recently started playing around with my account on Tumblr, a “blogging” site where people can reblog your posts (with a link to credit you) or make their own posts fairly easily to share content from the internet/pictures/links/quotes/etc. with the world with a few clicks. Some could have an overarching theme like the NRS blog or it could just be a ‘diary’-format blog where you can freely express your feelings with words or images. Blog are convenient and all; however, it is a lot less ‘private’ because as far as I’m concerned, nothing on the internet is perfectly secure. Problem is, I find thirteen- and fourteen-year olds on Tumblr sharing information about themselves; same goes for Facebook. They can be exposed to so much through the internet and in return, also have a lot of their information exposed. Personally, I think this trend is unhealthy and probably should be stopped; but how? How are we to prevent the leaking of information about these teens, who are becoming more and more well-versed in technology with so many advancements in technology happening and waiting to happen?
