Online Legacy

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Many students are not aware that many colleges and employers look up their names on the internet. In fact, many students are not even aware that posting pictures online is making them available for circulation. Even if the pictures are privately sent through emails, they can easily lead to cyber-bullying or even bullying at school. What you post online have real consequences in your college admission, job prospect and emotional life. Be careful!

Being Anonymously Mean On The Internet

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

A couple years ago, someone posted a video of a young man trying to be a Starwars character. If you use Youtube, you know what I’m talking about. I laughed at this, making me a cruel person. If you look at the comments, people are making fat jokes about him. In this other video, “Hey Soul Sister (Me Singing)”, the person in the video tries to sing it. I’m being honest, I didn’t like it, but a ton of people are giving him çráp about his voice, and taking it overboard. Like saying “Go die and a hole and never come back you ugly a** hobbit.” I mean, is that necessary? What I’m saying is, if you watch a video that is COMPLETELY embarrassing (like “Starwars Kid”, or “Afro Ninja”, “Fat guy dancing to Black Eye Peas”) you don’t need to say jerky things, or need to hate. You’re the one who watched it.

Being Safe Online

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Why was the Internet created? To express your ideas about something or critical thoughts about something? To share new things that happen with you in your life? To entertain people with funny things, or games? To share everything with everyone. That’s why people use it, they share stuff, age appropriate or not. People abuse the power of the Internet, like use it for bad deeds. Some examples are like stalking, creeping, bullying, etc. Do you use the Internet safely? Talk to strangers on Facebook (if you accepted them), or share live chat with random people? Do you cyber bully people? Just today on AOL, there was a story about an 11-year-old boy took his life away from cyberbullying. Use the Internet safely, and be smart. Don’t post things you don’t want your parents to see, because everyone has access to view what you posted. Mess up your life on the Internet just shows you how dumb you were.

Get Help on Live Chat

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

The goal of the National Runaway Switchboard is to help in keeping youth safe by them find food, shelter, or transportation. Sometimes, though, people are blocked from contacting us because of various obstacles. Maybe someone can’t talk on the phone because they’re at a library, or they can’t risk having their parents hear them calling, or they aren’t ready to speak directly to another person about what’s going on. That’s why the National Runaway Switchboard’s new live chat service is important. The service allows people looking for help to chat in real time with trained chat operators. NRS can still help find food and shelter for whoever needs it, but the live chat offers a new way of getting this help. The chat service, like our phone service, is 100% anonymous and confidential, and just as easy to access. If you go to NRS’ website, www.1800RUNAWAY.org, you can find the link in the upper right hand corner. Help is just a few clicks away.
