Paying Your Dues

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

We are young. We can be easily dismissed based on our age in any “adult” conversation. But if we act recklessly, stop listening to adults, work hard and learn, we would be giving more evidences for people to dismiss us. I’ve seen so many young people complaining that they are not given jobs, assignments or work that fit their capabilities. If that is the case for you, it is probably wiser to understand that most people go through the same process of doing administrative tasks like filing before they can have a decent job. In this economic climate, it is even more important to pay your dues.

Left Without Learning

Schools cannot function if there are not any teachers or students. It is just an empty building but schools should never be empty or lacking teachers. The only reason why this may happen is because of a strike. My university has four unions that did not have contracts for a year. This fall semester came around and the unions were getting angrier. More talk was brought up for the university to do something about the issue. The news was getting out to the public so the Chancellor had to make it seem like it was no big deal. As of today the faculty union has not seen results and decided to strike. They want fair contracts that they can agree upon. But what about the students? How are we supposed to get the education that we paid for if the teachers are gone? If anyone is at a university where this could ever be a problem stick up and help.

You have to be safe around strangers. Even your friends that you have known since forever. Say a girl/boy that you’ve known forever asked you for $10.00. You give it to them, then the next two weeks they’ve been acting strange. One day, possibly, they give you the drugs that they bought with your money. Illegal drugs. You have to be safe about things and situations like this. Just today my friend got a candy and it was one of those marijuana candy that was shown on the news that morning. He was safe and told the police and the man got arrested. Halloween can be very dangerous, so you have to be careful about that.

We’re Still Human

There are many special needs kids in the world and yet only so few are accepted. I never had this in my family but I do know one of my friends who has a brother with a special need. In my new high school, it bewildered me how many students accepted them and I was never faced with such a dilemma. I had never before come to think of them at all. I saw people with disabilities before but never so many. The group Best Buddies was something that helped these special kids. Some of them seemed to have more needs than others. I began to accept them after a while, I learned more about them as well. Some have their own struggle just by remembering who and where they even are. I had a few conversations with a student that had a hearing problem. It was a unique experience that I will never forget. Thus, there is much judgment against them, they are bullied and judged by who they are, and I have become aware of that. This is something that is an ongoing problem, and it is very sad of these illnesses, but there are people who will help, and that makes the world all the better.
