Home of the Outcasts

Monday, October 10th, 2011

Outcasts, druggies, whørëš: these were all names that were used for us teens that stayed in a group home. It was only a few days ago that I had lost myself, let someone else take advantage of me. It took me until I was expelled from school and home to realize that what I was in was an abusive relationship. I had lost all of my self-esteem; I didn’t know who I was at the time. In this group home there were about 10 of us, each one with our own set of issues. During my time I managed to cope slowly with all the pain I had inside me. It took a lot of strength but I pulled through. Every now and then one of us would go and someone else would come and replace them. As time went on ,I would have 1 hour every so often to talk to my friends on the phone, and my best friend would tell me what was going on in the school. Once I finished my time, I went back home. I felt better and was more capable of doing things. The suspension continued and I went in a program that helped me profoundly with my schoolwork, but it wasn’t enough. My grades dropped massively, and my friends began to talk to me less and less. Two months after no school, being back from the group home, and going thru two school board hearings, I finally received my letter…

Easy Choices

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Heroin, cocaine, meth, crack, marijuana, and all those bad drugs – some are so addictive, you would die without them, literary. I mean, whats the point of smoking them? They make you look ugly, make you smell, burn your clothes, cause gum, lung, and heart disease, and even cause your death. Smoking, same deal. It destroys your trachea (air sacs in your lungs) and does the same stuff. Also, it makes second hand smoke, which is bad for people around you. In bars (which I hope none of you underage people are in), I know for a fact that in Michigan and Illinois DOES NOT allow smoking, anywhere public, like bars. If you WERE to do any of the following drugs why? Why in the world would you? It’s a dumb thing to do (not trying to offend any smokers), but for real? You could kill yourself, or those who hang around you. Would you want that on your shoulders? Would you want others to suffer? Well, trying to prove a point, just don’t do drugs, its bad for you, and others around you.

Setting Boundaries

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

Many have trouble dealing with their day-to-day world because they do not know where to set boundaries. I have had this problem myself. I think it is about realizing when some ones actions are not being beneficial to you anymore. When this happens, we need to say something to those who are affecting us in these ways and then establish that they can either not do them, as a stipulation to continue the relationship, or keep on with them and lose the relationship. Either way it is essential to realize what behaviors you are willing to accept in your life and those that you will not. Boundaries include such things as drugs, modes of talking, and even personal space. If you don’t want drugs around you then say so and more importantly follow through in leaving if they refuse to stop while around you. If you can’t handle arguing then make that a stipulation how you need it as well. Any way you look at it boundaries are an important step in setting up meaningful and healthy relationships. If your relationships are bothering you, then perhaps look at what boundaries you have set and reevaluate how they need to change or if the relationship is worth pursuing. As an important conclusion I must add that boundaries apply to all interpersonal relationships i.e. coworkers, lovers, friends, and family.

Teens and Drug Use

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Teens and young adults today are exposed to very life changing experiences. It all starts in their very young or hanging out outside their home and or in the home. Many teens use substances or sell the substances to satisfy their needs. If a teen doesn’t have money for something they will go get it. So they find a way easy way to make some cash without going through the long process of a regular job. Because teens have school and can’t do both at the same time some either drop out of school and other go before for school or after school and on weekends. They drop out because they know they will get more money for more hours. The others stay in school because they know they can’t sell drugs forever.

The teens who are exposed to using the drugs are sometimes the buyers and the sellers. They become curious with the product and decide to try it. Once they tried it already they become more curious with the product or disappointed. Also they see their friends and family using it and it makes them wonder why they use it or someone peer pressure them to use it and fall under their footsteps and they thinks its cool and end up like their friend or family member.

Some say it releases their stress and makes them feel good and relax. Especially if they’ve suffered a lot already in life and others say it a waste of their time and they can find a alternate to make them happy that doesn’t have any thing to do with drugs and its not worth sacrificing their health and job opportunity. Suffering with life obstacles and replacing the pain with drugs doesn’t make it better because you’re suffering in another way which is drug abuse that causes a lot of side effects. So in the end your still getting abused in some type of way. Teens today need to make sure the decisions their making are the right decisions.
