Know your values

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

Imagine you were a one-hundred dollar bill, lying on the cold street, wrinkled and dirty. Would somebody pick you up? Would you still hold the value of a one-hundred-dollar bill in this world? Bullies are simply ignorant, heavy footsteps that trample that one-hundred dollar bill. But its value still remains, however miserable it appears to be. And soon, someone wiser, smarter will pick it up and appreciate its value. For all of us, when we are depressed, saddened and helpless about the world outside, it is always important to remember our self-worth. No one in this world has succeeded without once being misunderstood, being trampled, bullied, hurt by others. People can only matter in your life as much as you allow them to.

Release

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

I recall when I was in group counseling, I meet a distinct group of teens that were all from shy, to energetic. This group was for those that were sexually assaulted or molested. In my case I was sexually abused by 3 family members at the age of 6. Each story was different, and each story was told. Each one of us spoke of being scared, sad, depressed, and very uncomfortable about opening up about it. It took me until I was 13 years old to speak up openly about the incident. I was extremely affected by it, and it took a lot of effort to stand up to it. For a long time, I was in abusive relationships looking for attention and some compassion. I didn’t realize that I was engaged in such relationships that I would deny of being treated in such a way. In the end I learned to get away from it. The counseling did help, but wasn’t enough. It took much work for me to realize the amount of effects of having to be sexually abused did to me.

Give it a Try

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

Too many young people are afraid to try. Everywhere we look, we can only see the glorification of success that we are almost obliged to have should we ever try anything. So we stop trying. There’s too much uncertainty. And the other half of the road is only for losers – or so we think. Failure is a beautiful aspect of life. It helps us reassess our self-image and provide a powerful reality check. If you fail, so what? You can try again, but with better strategies this time. You might break down your goals into smaller steps, but don’t give up or settle for less.

Courage

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Courage is doing what you’re afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you’re scared. If you are not scared of anything, and you think you’re fearless, you’re half right and half wrong. Having fear of something, but doing it is REAL courage, unless you do something you’re NOT afraid of, and do it, and say you have courage, that’s a lie. That’s is cowardly. The reason of that is because you are doing something you are comfortable with, and you have no problem with it. Like for example, say you weren’t afraid of roller coasters and you ride the baddest of them all, and say your fearless, that’s a lie. But if you are afraid of heights, and you jump from a cliff or a plane, that’s courageousness. You need fear of something to have courage to actually do the thing you are afraid of. Me, I have no courage, I’m a careful man, and never take chances that could risk and injury or other stuff, unless it’s sports. The people out there, that have no where to live but the streets where gangs are, and you sleep there, that’s just crazy. What I’m saying is that, you need to do stuff that your afraid of doing (I know, I sound like a hypocrite) and stick with your guts. Be a trailblazer, one who goes into the unknown to find a better future.
